resume (to be updated)
Anne Zetterberg, West Chester PA
I have been carving stone for 20 years in the Philadelphia area. I began in 1992 on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, and in 1994 I became a student of Doris Sams in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. I use a method of direct carving that is my response to the natural material. I am very conscious of using a natural resource, and try not to waste the stone.
Alabasters and soapstones have a varying translucence and a quality of softness and fragility that makes their interiors a complex and vulnerable place. The forms I sculpt come out of this interior. They come to the surface of the piece where they can be physically touched, but then they seem to turn inward again, and keep me reminded of my own interior, the vulnerable interior of being human.
